THE PROJECT

“we dreamt about an ancestral craft, handmade, in contact with nature. Something Always evolving, alife, challenging. creating with our hands, hearts and minds. a reflection of ourselves. the ultimate goal was to create beauty for people like us”

THE PHILOSOPHY

Biologically rich, wild yeast, naturally fermented, additives free, minimalistic aging, low intervention. Crafting natural wines since 2001.

We seek the essence, the invisible, to create Classic wines from the 60s, pure joy and depth, light feet dancers.

THE wines

Encapsulating +20 years of winemaking and wine knowledge, our products aspire to grasp the invisible, blossoming as ethereal and soul warming wines.

We look for the equilibrium between extract enough to get aging potential, substance and flavours, but as little as possible to get lightness, ethereal and transparent textures. Just Classic Natural wines.

THE HARVEST

Handling vines and grapes carefully, respecting the natural rithms, focusing on sustainable growing and to reach the maximum quality possible.

We pursue delicious grapes, full of flavour, tasty with the perfect balance between natural sugar and acids.

THE QUALITY

International recognition achieved. Reflecting our high quality standards in the whole process; from vineyard management to packaging and costumer attention.

We commit with an understandable quality, from the wine itself, to the packaging or our communications, trying to reflect our love and passion for the details.

THE DRESS

How we can explain in a label that we are contemporary, but we craft old school and natural wines? How we can explain that we love wine and wine culture, but we are outsiders that haven’t inherited a winery? How we can explain that we love design, but we are trying to avoid a ‘design’ aesthetic?

These thoughts drove us to the idea about creating a collection of labels inspired by the Goya’s ‘Obra Negra’; based on the engraving technique; showing the same nature-man tension than the concept of ‘terroir’ inhabits; showing little unsolved riddles in the comic strip fashion; and create really beautiful labels for sure.

Our wines have woman’s names, honouring the hardworking grandmas that have legate to all of us the amazing old vineyards that you can find everywhere in the world.

Páramos de Nicasia

Páramos de Nicasia wines, are named blinking an eye to the classic second wine naming such as ‘la Fleur de Pétrus’ after the ‘Pétrus’. Means Nicasia’s moorlands, named after Nicasia.

The labels show three scenes with people in danger or in tension; a man lying on a rock so weak that can’t respond to the jay biting; a couple hugging side by side to a vulture sit on a coffer full of human bones; and a couple, with the woman horrified for something that we can’t see, where the blinded man walking towards.

These labels represent the ‘terroir’ balance between the man and the nature; when crafting premium wines, nature and man can work evenly but with some risks.

Nicasia

Nicasia wines, named after Nicasia; our first Duero river vineyards, where Maquina&Tabla project started.

The labels show two of the endangered animals in the region; a barn owl on top of a human corpse for the white wine; a wolf with a human hand in the mouth.

These labels represent the ultimate ‘terroir’ tension between the man and the nature; when crafting top level wines, nature always prevails.

el OSO Y LA ALEMANA

el Oso y la Alemana wines, doesn't care about all the intellectual conceptualisation from NICASIA and PÁRAMOS de Nicasia wines; el OSO y la ALEMANA are wines to enjoy care freely.

The labels show a young woman at her own; fooling around and Cosplaying as a bear. Inspired by some IG profiles such as Winona Rider and X.

These labels represent a joyful attitude towards wine, trying to shake off all the prejudices, steps and entry barriers. Only a fun and beautiful labels and wines.

THIS IS US

MÀQUINA&TABLA
Est. 2013

Founded by Susana Pastor & Oriol Illa.

After visiting some bucolic regions such as Corsica, Banyuls, Priorat or Cinque Terre, we falled in love with the raw material in Castilla León;

High Altitude Grenaches in Gredos, Slate Slopes in Bierzo and the amazing Sandy Soils from Toro and their ungrafted vines.

Here we pursued the idea of crafting delicate and bold wines, which represent the our take on the Classic Wines from the region.
